First Songs

I met Joel during the year I lived in Ooty, South India. This short collection of heartfelt songs was recorded in my flat over a few days; often with the monsoon pouring down outside. watching the incredible musicianship made these sessions an excellent experience. With early Coldplay as an inspiration Say Goodbye and In Your Eyes started with a guitar wash and a deep bass to which we added the vocals and other instruments. I felt it was important to make the tracks sound busy but not crowded, so we limited ourselves to 3 guitar tracks most of the time. To achieve the vocal effects at the end of In Your Eyes I doubled the line "We've got no time" an octave up with a ping-pong pan and harsh auto-tuning.
